The Duke Blue Devils and McGill University meet Sunday in college basketball preseason action at the Place Bell.
The Duke Blue Devils is coming off a 36-point win over the University of Toronto, but was obviously on the losing side of the cover. After struggling to pull away from Ryerson University, Duke outscored its opponent in all four quarters and got off to a much faster start. Zion Williamson and R.J. Barrett once again did most of the heavy lifting scoring wise in the recent effort, but Joey Baker this time was able to chip in double-digit points and make for a more balanced victory. While the two star freshmen have been hogging up a lot of the field goal attempts, you’d like to see other players get involved, as it’s going to take more than two players to make a run for the ACC title. Regardless, I think it’s fair to say that Barrett and Williamson are as good as advertised, and it’s going to be a treat watching them play in the NCAA in a couple of months. This will be the last game for the Duke Blue Devils until the Countdown to Craziness takes place in mid-October.

McGill University has already place Mississippi, Cincinnati, South Dakota State and Vermont, all of the games were losses but were able to hang around in the final two matches. McGill University has experience playing big time programs, as it took SMU to overtime last year and played a game against Alabama as well. The school finished 26-12 last year and was 14-2 in conference play. As for this season in four games, McGill University is averaging 60 points on 32 percent shooting and allowing 83.5 points on 47.5 percent shooting. Alex Paquin is averaging 18.3 points and three rebounds while Noah Daoust is averaging 8.3 points and 3.8 rebounds. Sam Jenkins has made five three pointers in four games and Levi Londole is grabbing 4.8 rebounds. McGill University needs to find some offensive depth before the season starts, as it’s hard to win when one player is capable of dropping double-digit points.
We've made money taking the points and fading Duke in both games, so we might as well try our luck once again for the sweep. McGill University doesn't have anywhere close to the firepower to hang with Duke, but it is highly experienced in terms of playing high level college teams. McGill University has already played some respectable teams this year and took SMU to overtime last year. While many schools are just happy for the chance to share the floor with these guys, McGill University won't be intimidated. That alone is worth something and should be enough to consider taking the boatload of points.
