The East Tennessee State Buccaneers begin their college basketball schedule with the Georgia State Panthers.
The East Tennessee State Buccaneers finished second in the SoCon at 14-4 and 25-9 overall while losing to UNC Greensboro in the conference championship game. East Tennessee State was efficient at the offensive end of the floor at 75.2 points on 47.3% marksmanship but the team really excelled defensively with just 65.9 points allowed on 40.3%.

The Buccaneers lose do everything guard Desonta Bradford in scoring (15.4), rebounding, assists and steals while fellow guard Jalan McCloud. took 11.8 points to graduation.
ETSU returns only two significant contributors in guard Bo Hodges at nine points and 6-10 center Mladen Armus with 6.3 points and 5.5 rebounds.
The Georgia State Panthers have been one of the top squads in the Sun Belt in recent years and were once again last season. Georgia State finished second in the conference behind UL Lafayette and were 24-11 overall. The defensive minded Panthers outscored opponents 74.7-67.3 and allowed just 39.3% shooting.
Georgia State might have another banner season with the bulk of their production returning including star guard D’Marcus Simonds with 21.2 points and 5.7 rebounds followed Devin Mitchell with 12 points and Jeff Thomas with 10.7 points.
