The Duke Blue Devils and Kentucky Wildcats meet Tuesday in college basketball action at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
The Duke Blue Devils enter another season as one of the favorites to win the national title. Stop me if you’ve heard that before. While Duke will be extremely young with majority of last years production gone, a recruiting class of Joey Baker, R.J. Barrett, Tre Jones, Cameron Reddish and Zion Williamson is one of the best we’ve seen in quite some time. A combination of Williamson and Barrett is going to be must-see television most nights and is a tandem that could soon be crowned as the best in college basketball. If Duke can develop depth over the course of the season and these young players start clicking, they could eventually be the team to beat once March rolls around. The Duke Blue Devils have won six of their last nine non-home games.

The Kentucky Wildcats also have a loaded recruiting class coming in, which is highlighted by 5-star players Ashton Hagans, Keldon Johnson, E.J. Montgomery and Immanuel Quickley. However, for once, Kentucky has some key players from last years squad coming back in double-digit scorer PJ Washington and playmaker Quade Green. Yes, the young players are going to steal the show with UK once again, but there’s six players on this roster entering at least their second season, and that’s rare with these Wildcats. The combination of talented youth and a dash of experience could be the difference this season. The Kentucky Wildcats could see a lot less growing pains with a bit of a more balanced roster. The Kentucky Wildcats have won six of their last eight non-home games.
The Blue Devils are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 non-conference games, 11-5 ATS in their last 16 neutral site games and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Wildcats are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games, 31-15-5 ATS in their last 51 neutral site games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The over is 9-2 in Wildcats last 11 overall and the over is 13-3 in Blue Devils last 16 non-conference games.
The Kentucky Wildcats have a better combination of experience and youth, and that could be the difference on the big stage against a Duke team that's extremely, extremely young. However, the Duke Blue Devils are the more talented team on paper, and this team did grow up a little bit on its exhibition tour run a couple of months ago. In first games of the season when we're still feeling things out, I tend to side with the talent. It doesn't get much better than the Blue Devils and what this recruiting class has the potential to offer. Give me Duke and the free bucket.
