The USC Upstate Spartans and the South Carolina Gamecocks will be meeting up on the college basketball court Tuesday at Colonial Life Arena.
The Spartans enter this one following a 7-25 season last year, going just 2-12 in ASUN play for a last-place finish. USC Upstate lost in the quarterfinals of the ASUN Tournament to Florida Gulf Coast.

This year, USC Upstate retains a few seniors in Malik Moore, Deion Holmes and Pat Welch, each of whom will offer guidance to a freshman-heavy squad this season.
Over on the South Carolina side, they’re coming off a 17-16 season, going 7-11 in SEC play for a tie in 11th place. The Gamecocks managed to dispatch Ole Miss in the first round of the SEC Tournament but fell to Arkansas in the second.
South Carolina loses a few graduating seniors this year, namely Frank Booker, but brings in a few transfers and an interesting recruiting class which includes TJ Moss and Keyshawn Bryant.
The Spartans are 0-4 ATS in their last four road games and 0-8 ATS in their last eight overall. USC Upstate is also 0-8 in their last eight non-conference games and the over is 4-1 in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Gamecocks are 6-1-1 in their last eight overall and 2-6 ATS in their last eight Tuesday games. South Carolina is also 33-16-2 ATS in their last 51 non-conference games and the under is 17-8 in their last 25 non-conference games.
USC Upstate appears to be retooling for the next few years, so we’re going to see a lot of elementary mistakes here, especially in the early-going.
As for South Carolina, their recruiting class this season isn’t stellar, but should bolster the ranks of a squad looking toward the future.
I’m not thrilled about either one of these teams’ situations, but I’ll just stick with the Gamecocks for the cover here.
