The Texas Longhorns and the Eastern Illinois Panthers will match up on the college basketball court at Frank Erwin Center on Tuesday.
Eastern Illinois is coming off a 14-15 season last year, going 6-10 in the OVC for a fifth-place finish in the West Division. The Panthers did not qualify for the conference tournament so their season came to an abrupt end.

The Panthers have quite a few juniors rejoining the team this year, and that experience will help Lucas Jones and Aboubacar Diallo to lead the squad. Ben Harvey and Cam Burrell also join up as freshmen who could potentially have an impact down the line.
Over on the Texas side, they’re coming off a 19-15 season a year ago, going 8-10 in Big 12 play to finish in seventh place. The Longhorns took out Iowa State in the first round of the Big 12 Tournament but lost to Texas Tech in the quarters before their at-large NCAA Tournament bid as a 10 seed came to an end in the first round versus Nevada.
The Longhorns will look a little different this year with the absence of Mohamed Bomba who is now in the NBA, but they’ve also got some solid incoming recruits in Gerald Liddell, Courtney Ramey and Kamaka Hepa.
The Panthers are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 Tuesday games and 0-4 in their last four non-conference games. The over is 13-3 in Eastern Illinois’ last 16 overall and 4-1 in their last five road games.
Meanwhile, the Longhorns are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and the under is 4-0 in their last four Tuesday games. The over is 4-1 in the Longhorns’ last five overall.
This may not be as one-sided an affair as some people think, as the Panthers retain some top talent this season and will bring that experience along with them into the opener. It’s a daunting task for Eastern Illinois to keep up here, but I think they’ve got enough scoring to manage a cover. I’m going Panthers.
