The Robert Morris Colonials and USC Trojans meet Tuesday in college basketball action at the Galen Center.
The Robert Morris Colonials finished last season a game under a .500 record after losing eight of their final 11 games. Robert Morris does lose its top player in Dachon Burke, but there’s a strong returning duo in Koby Thomas and Matty McConnell, who combined for 22.8 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.4 assists. Jon Williams is a returning starter who averaged 3.5 assists and Malik Petteway grabbed 5.8 rebounds in the limited playing time he got. The Robert Morris Colonials are an experienced team with four seniors on their roster, and there’s a lot of returning production from a year ago. Robert Morris has the potential to be a force in the Northeast this season, and they can start by putting together a solid showing on the west coast. The Robert Morris Colonials have lost five of their last seven road games.

The USC Trojans won 24 games last season and watched things come to an end in the second round of the NIT. USC will look different than a year ago, but the return of Bennie Boatwright provides some comfort, as he averaged 13.6 points and 6.4 rebounds, and he’s been a consistent double-digit scorer for three years. Jonah Mathews averaged 9.3 points and 2.6 rebounds while Nick Rakocevic averaged 8.1 points and 6.2 rebounds. USC also has a solid recruiting class coming in, especially with the addition of 5-star shooting guard Kevin Porter Jr. The USC Trojans could very well end up competing for a Pac-12 title this season if everything goes well, as the offensive firepower is certainly there. The USC Trojans have won eight of their last 10 home games.
The Colonials are 8-1 ATS in their last 9 Tuesday games. The over is 7-1 in Colonials last 8 non-conference games and the under is 15-5-1 in Trojans last 21 overall. The under is 6-2 in Trojans last 8 home games.
The USC Trojans are explosive offensively, but they had trouble defensively at times and often get in these track meet games that make covering big numbers impossible. The Robert Morris Colonials are no pushovers and are a very experienced team. This game should be closer than many think. Give me the points.
