The Villanova Wildcats open 2018-19 with the Morgan State Bears in Tuesday college basketball action.
The Morgan State Bears finished the 2017-18 campaign at 13-19 for a middle of the row ranking in the MEAC. Morgan State averaged 72.2 points on 41.8% shooting and gave up 74.8 points on 44.6% accuracy.
The Bears were a team that had little room for error a season ago and probably have even less room in 2018-19. Guard Tiwian Kendley graduated with a 26 point average in his final year while Phillip Carr leaves a 13.7 point, 9.3 rebound void to fill.
Junior guards Martez Cameron and Stanley Davis combined 15.8 points and 5.7 assists a season ago to give the backcourt returning leadership. Forward David Syfax is the biggest projected starter at 6-7 and brings back 6.5 points and a team high 4.3 rebounds for a Morgan State squad that appears to be a score by committee team.
The Villanova Wildcats open the season at #8 after winning the national title in 2017-18. Villanova went 36-4 behind the top ranked offense that averaged 86.6 points on 50% shooting and allowed 70.2 points.
The Wildcats appear to be rebuilding with their top four contributors gone but that’s only on paper. Jay Wright has another loaded team with Phil Booth and Eric Paschall the biggest ‘known’ names. With Joe Cremo bringing 17.8 points in from Albany and another talented group of recruits coming in Nova is still a championship contender.
Morgan State are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games and Morgan State are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. Over is 15-5 in Villanova last 20 home games and over is 13-5 in Villanova last 18 Tuesday games and over is 15-6 in Villanova last 21 overall.
