The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will travel to Charles Koch Arena to take on the Wichita State Shockers this upcoming Tuesday in College Basketball action.

The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs finished last season with a 17-16 (7-11 C-USA) record and although they were able to upset the North Texas Mean Green in the first round of the C-USA Men’s Championship, the Bulldogs couldn’t advance any further after falling to the 2-seed Old Dominion Monarchs, by a 62-58 margin in the quarterfinals. Louisiana Tech was really hurt by injuries last season and finished the season ranked just 190th in FG shooting. The Bulldogs no longer will have the services of Jalen Harris  (15.3 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.1 spg) or Jacobi Boykins (14.7 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.5 apg, 1.0 spg) however, does return DaQuan Bracey. Bracey deal with a back injury last season but still averaged 12.4 ppg, 1.9 rpg, 4.1 apg in 25 games last season and was the C-USA Freshman of the year in the 2016-17 season. Derric Jean (9.5 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.1 spg returns and should form a solid duo with Bracey in the starting five and the Bulldogs will also hope that Amorie Archibald (7.5 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 4.0 apg) and Anthony Duruji (7.2 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.4 bpg) can take bigger roles in the offense this season. Louisiana Tech brought in a talented Junior College transfer in Ra’Shawn Langstown and although they will have ta hard time replacing Boykins, the Bulldogs could be a surprise team in the C-USA if things fall the right way.

Wichita State has been one of the most talented and consistent programs in all of College Basketball over the past 10 years however, even though they finished last season with a 25-8 overall record (14-4 AAC), it was a disappointing season for the Shockers as they were upset by the 13-seed Marshall Thundering Herd in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament. Wichita State and head coach Greg Marshall will certainly have their work cut out for them this season if they want to continue their great run of success as the Shockers lost their top-3 scorers in Landry Shamet (14.9 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 5.2 apg), Shaquille Morris (14.0 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.5 bpg), and Conner Frankamp (10.6 ppg, 1.8 rpg, 2.3 apg). The top returning player for the Shockers is Markis McDuffie who averaged 8.5 ppg & 3.1 rpg who should the ability to score the basketball at times last season as he combined for 41 points in back-to-back games agianst Tulane and SMU towards the end of last season. Samajae Haynes-Jones (5.3 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 1.3 apg) will also be back for the Shockers and Marshall will home that Junior College transfer Ricky Torres and incoming Freshman Erik Stevenson can step in and make immediate contributions.

The Bulldogs are 12-5 ATS in their last 17 Tuesday games however, are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games. The Shockers are 9-2 ATS in their last 11 Tuesday games however, are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 home games.

I’m not concerned that Wichita State won’t be well prepared for this game, however, I’m really interested to see the Shockers on the court this season as they have a ton of question marks. Charles Koch Arena is a tough place to play, however, I think the Bulldogs will be a better team then people expect as long as DaQuan Bracey stays healthy and I’m going to take Louisiana Tech and the points in this one.
