The Nicholls State Colonels and the Louisville Cardinals will be matching up on the college basketball court Thursday from KFC Yum! Center.
Nicholls State enters this year following a 21-11 record overall and a 15-3 mark in Southland play for a regular-season championship tie. The Colonels’ season ended on a sour note however, as they lost in the semis of the conference tournament to Stephen F. Austin.

Nicholls State got things off to a good start in their opener against the Mississippi College Choctaws with an 86-58 victory. Leading the way for the Colonels was Jeremiah Jefferson with 28 points, while Gavin Peppers added 20 more alongside eight rebounds.
Over on the Louisville side, they posted a 22-14 record last year but went just 9-9 in ACC play—leaving them in an eighth-place tie. The Cardinals made it to the quarterfinals of the conference tournament where they fell to Virginia, and also the quarterfinals of the NIT where they fell to Mississippi State.
Louisville will be scrambling to fill some holes this year, after Deng Adel, Anas Mahmoud and Ray Spalding all declared for the NBA Draft. The Cardinals do have a handful of transfers to work with however, and we’ll probably see some role-shifting as the season wears on.
The Colonels are 6-16 ATS in their last 22 road games and 2-7 ATS in their last nine overall. The over is 5-2 in Nicholls State’s last seven road games and 7-3 in their last 10 overall.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals are 6-2 ATS in their last eight Thursday games and the over is 4-1 in their last five Thursday games.
Nicholls State should be able to put up another solid campaign this year, as they’re laden with upperclassmen who will bring some experience to the squad.
As for Louisville, they’ll be a new-look team with ex-Xavier head coach Chris Mack holding the reins, so there will likely be a few growing pains early in the season as everyone gets acclimated. This is a good matchup to start out on however, as the Colonels have a pretty balanced team.
I think Nicholls State can hang around and cover here, so long as the line isn't weird.
