In their first action of the season, UC Irvine put up an 86-68 victory against the Idaho Vandals on Tuesday. Leading the way in scoring for the Anteaters in that one was Eyassu Worku, who posted 18 points and six assists.
Over on the Texas A&M side, they’re fresh off a 22-13 campaign last season with a 9-9 mark in SEC play (seventh-place tie). The Aggies fell in the second round of the SEC Tournament, then got to the Sweet Sixteen round in the NCAA Tournament where they fell to Michigan.
Texas A&M is also 1-0 on the young season, taking out Savannah State 98-83 in their most recent action. The Aggies’ lead scorer was Savion Flagg with 24 points and 16 rebounds, while Christian Mekowulu logged 14 rebounds and nine points himself.
The Anteaters are 6-0 ATS in their last six road games and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six non-conference games. UC Irvine is 10-4 ATS int her last 14 overall and 1-4 in their last five Friday games.
Meanwhile, the Aggies are 4-1 ATS in their last five versus the Big West and 1-4 ATS in their last five home games. The over is 5-0 in Texas A&M’s last five following an ATS loss and 6-1 in their last seven home games.
It’s tough telling much of anything about a team by looking at their first game of the season, but all in all both these squads looked pretty good in their openers. Texas A&M in particular put up a nice balanced effort, with five players finishing in double-digit scoring.
I like the Aggies this year, so I’m going that route.
