The Western Michigan Broncos come into this game looking to build on a solid 89-76 win over Detroit Mercy in their season opener. Seth Dugan has a monster opening performance with 32 points on 12 of 18 shooting with game-highs of 6 assists and a whopping 22 rebounds. The Ole Miss Rebels will have a new look a year removed from a disappointing 2017-18 season in which Ole Miss went 12-20 overall, including 5-13 in SEC play to finish dead last in the SEC, losing in the first round of the conference tournament to South Carolina. The Rebels no longer have Andy Kennedy as head coach, stepping down midseason last year, but they were quick to find a solid replacement in former Middle Tennessee State coach Kermit Davis. Davis still brings back leading scorer and rebounder Terence Davis who averaged 13.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game last season. Breein Tyree and Bruce Stevens also return after averaging double digits in scoring last season.
Western Michigan is 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against the SEC while the over is 49-21-2 in their last 72 Saturday games. Ole Miss is 2-10 ATS in their last 12 games overall and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 non-conference games while the under is 9-1 in their last 10 home games.
The Rebels have a rest advantage here, but that doesn’t change the fact that the Rebels have a lot of work to do to earn my trust with my hard earned money. A coaching change helps, but I’m not sure anyone on Ole Miss has an answer for a player the likes of Dugan on Western Michigan. I think the Rebels win this game, but I can’t see it being by double digits so I’ll take Western Michigan and the points here.
