The Toledo Rockets and the Wright State Raiders will be meeting up on the college basketball circuit Wednesday from Nutter Center.
Toledo currently sits at 2-0 following a nail-biter 87-86 win over Oakland and a 99-58 drubbing of Wilberforce (Ohio).

In the opener, Toledo’s top scorer was Jaelan Sanford with 30 points, and Willie Jackson doubled up on 15 points, 10 rebounds and three assists. Against Wilberforce, the Rockets’ lead man was Jackson on another double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Marreon Jackson also jumped into the mix on 10 assists.
Over on the Wright State side, they’re sitting at 1-1 this season. The Raiders took out WCU 96-73 in their opener, then couldn’t do much against Murray State in a 73-54 loss.
In the WCU game, Wright State’s top man was Billy Wampler with 26 points, and Loudon Love provided 17 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Against Murray State, the Raiders’ lead scorer was Mark Hughes with 16 points and five rebounds.
The Rockets are 2-5 ATS in their last seven versus the Horizon League and 2-6 ATS in their last eight non-conference games. Toledo is 1-4 ATS in their last five road games and 0-5 ATS in their last five overall.
Meanwhile, the Raiders are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games and 6-2-1 ATS in their last nine following an ATS loss. Wright State is 5-2 ATS in their last seven overall and 2-5 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games.
It took Toledo a little while to get going in their opener, but they played fairly well in the second half and pulled out a win. The Rockets potentially have a solid group of contributors and if everyone gets involved they tend to do well.
Wright State just isn’t looking great after the Murray State dud, and I’m not ready to trust them yet even though they have a few good-looking names on their roster.
I’m going Toledo here all the way.
