The Eastern Illinois Panthers are gunning for back to back victories after squeezing by Western Illinois 68-66 in overtime for their first win. Eastern Illinois allowed just 36.1% shooting and struggled to 32.9% but forced 16 turnovers leading to nine more looks at the basket which turned out to be the difference in an even box score.

The Panthers received 13 points and three yanks from Josiah Wallace on 5-13 from the field with Shareef Wallace adding 12 points, six boards on 4-9 along with a team high four turnovers. Ben Harvey gave EIU eleven points and a team high ten rebounds on 4-10 shooting while the trio of Rade Kukobat, JaQualis Matlock and Mack Smith combined for 20 points and 21 rebounds.
The Gardner-Webb Running’ Bulldogs lost three straight to kick off 2018-19 before getting in the win column with a 97-77 rout of Savannah State. Gardner-Webb took a 14 point lead in to the half and were in control throughout. The Runnin’ Bulldogs held a significant 54.5%-37.1% shooting edge along with a +13 on the backboards.
Jose Perez led an explosive Gardner-Webb offense with 23 points and six boards on 9-14 marksmanship while David Efianayi added 20 points, four pulls and four assists on 7-12 shooting including 4-8 from long distance. Eric Jamison gave the Runnin’ Bulldogs 18 points, 14 rebounds and four helpers on 9-9 accuracy followed by an eleven point, six board, five assist effort by Jaheam Cornwall.
