The Omaha Mavericks will travel to Hilton Coliseum to take on the Iowa State Cyclones this Monday night in College Basketball action.

The Omaha Mavericks won their 2nd straight game and improved to 3-3 on the season after defeating the Montana State Bobcats, 89-65, this past Saturday. Omaha had no trouble putting up points against the struggling Montana State defense and easily cruised to victory after taking a 74-52 lead with 7:17 left in regulation. Omaha shot 57.9% from the field and 48.3% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Mavericks was Zack Johnson who had 33 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal.

On the season, Omaha is averaging 79.3 ppg on 48.3% shooting from the field. The Mavericks are averaging 8.0 three-pointers per game on 35.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Omaha has been led by Zach Johnson (21.8 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.8 spg), JT Gibson (13.2 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 1.3 apg, 2.0 spg), KJ Robinson (9.8 ppg, 1.2 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.2 spg), and Matt Pile (9.0 ppg, 6.3 rpg).

Defensively, Omaha is allowing their opponents to average 73.0 ppg on 46.6% shooting from the field. The Mavericks have a rebound margin of -1.8 and a turnover margin of 5.3.

The Iowa State Cyclones won their 2nd straight game and improved to 5-1 on the season after defeating the San Diego State Aztecs, 87-57, this past Wednesday in the 5th place game of the Maui Invitational. Iowa State dominated on both ends of the court against the Aztecs and easily secured the victory after taking a 65-40 lead with 8:49 left in regulation. Iowa State shot 47.5% from the field and 43.8% from beyond the arc while holding San Diego State to just 35.3% shooting from the field. Leading the way for the Cyclones was Michael Jacobson who had 19 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 assits.

On the season, Iowa State is averaging 79.5 ppg on 46.3% shooting from the field. The Cyclones are averaging 8.5 three-pointers per game on 33.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Iowa State has been led by Marial Shayok (19.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.5 apg), Michael Jacobson (17.7 ppg, 7.3 rpg), Talen Horton-Tucker (15.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.8 spg), and Nick Babb (11.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 5.0 apg, 1.2 spg).

Defensively, Iowa State is holding their opponents to average 63.5 ppg on 37.9% shooting from the field. The Cyclones have a rebound margin of 7.7 and a turnover margin of 3.0.

The Mavericks are 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 road games and 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600. The Cyclones are 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 home games vs. a team with a losing road record however, are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 Monday games.

Omaha picked up a nice at home agianst Montana State, however, the Mavericks are just not a very good team and can really struggle on the defensive end as they currently rank just 255th in rebound margin and 301st in defensive FG%. Iowa State is loaded with talent and depth which was on full display in their last two dominating victories over Illinois & San Diego State. Iowa State has been solid on both ends of the court this season as they rank 107th in scoring offense, T-49th in scoring defense, and 34th in defensive FG%. Hilton Coliseum is a tough place to play and as I just don’t see Omaha being able to find success on either end of the court, I’m taking Iowa State to cover this large home spread.
