The Davidson Wildcats will travel to Trask Coliseum to take on the UNC Wilmington Seahawks this Saturday night in College Basketball action.
The Davidson Wildcats won their 3rd straight game and improved to 6-1 on the season after defeating the Charlotte 49ers, 76-56, this past Tuesday. Davidson had little trouble taking care of business against the 49ers after 14-4 run gave Davidson a 67-46 lead with 6:31 left in regulation. Davidson shot 51.9% from the field while holding Charlotte to just 36.2% from the field and 18.2% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Wildcats was Jon Axel Gudmundsson who had a double-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 4 assits.
On the season, Davidson is averaging 71.7 ppg on 44.7% shooting from the field. The Wildcats are averaging 8.6 three-pointers per game on 31.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Davidson has been led by Kellan Grady (18.6 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.6 spg), Jon Axel Gudmundsson (18.1 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 4.1 apg), Luka Brajkovic (10.4 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.4 apg), and Luke Frampton (7.4 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.9 apg).
Defensively, Davidson is holding their opponents to an average of 65.0 ppg on 40.0% shooting from the field. The Wildcats have a rebound margin of 2.4 and a turnover margin of 1.0.
The UNC Wilmington Seahawks won their 2nd straight game and improved to 4-4 on the season after defeating the East Carolina Pirates, 95-86, this past Tuesday. UNC Wilmington was outstanding on the offensive end and held off a late East Carolina charge after they held a 76-52 lead with 9:02 left in regulation. The Seahawks shot 52.7% from the field and 41.7% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Seahawks was Jeantal Cylla who had 20 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, and a block.
On the season, UNC Wilmington is averaging 81.6 ppg on 47.9% shooting from the field. The Seahawks are averaging 8.4 three-pointers per game on 36.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UNC Wilmington has been led by Devontae Cacok (15.3 ppg, 12.1 rpg, 1.0 spg, 1.0 bpg), Jeantal Cylla (13.0 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 1.0 apg), Ty Taylor II (10.0 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.6 apg), and Jaylen Fornes (9.9 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.0 apg).
Defensively, UNC Wilmington is allowing their opponents to average 77.6 ppg on 44.7% shooting from the field. The Seahawks have a rebound margin of 6.5 and a turnover margin of -4.5.
The Wildcats are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games and 18-8-1 ATS in their last 27 games overall. The Seahawks are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and just 3-12 ATS in their last 15 non-conference games.
Davison has made it clear, especially with their back-to-back wins agianst Northeastern, that they are the team to beat in the CAA this season. The Wildcats have been great on the defensive end as they rank T-61st in scoring defense and T-76th in defensive FG%. UNC Wilmington certainly has an offense that can put up points but has struggled defensively as they rank 292nd in scoring defense and 330th in turnover margin. UNC Wilmington has a decent offense that is going to be able to outscore the weaker opponents they play, however, unfortunately for the Seahawks, the Wildcats are not a weak team. I think Davidson’s defense gives UNC Wilmington some trouble and that the offensive efforts of Grady and Gudmundsson do enough to get Davison to cover this spread.
