Columbia vs. Delaware - 12/2/18 College Basketball Pick, Odds, and Prediction

Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

On the season, Delaware is averaging 74.9 ppg on 49.1% shooting from the field. The Blue Hens are averaging 7.9 three-pointers per game on 39.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Delaware has been led by Eric Carter (17.8 ppg, 8.9 rpg, 2.9 apg), Kevin Anderson (13.1 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 4.4 apg, 1.3 spg), Ithiel Horton (12.3 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.3 spg), and Matt Veretto (8.9 ppg, 3.9 rpg).

Defensively, Delaware is holding their opponents to an average of 65.4 ppg on 40.4% shooting from the field. The Blue Hens have a rebound margin of 3.3 and a turnover margin of -2.0.

The Columbia Lions picked up their first win of the season, improving to 1-4 on the year, after defeating the D-III St. Joseph’s (NY-Brooklyn) Bears, 85-38, this past Sunday. Columbia made quick work of the Bears and had no trouble securing their first victory after taking a commanding 55-19 halftime lead. Columbia held St. Joseph’s (NY-Brooklyn) to just 25.5% shooting from the field and outrebounded the Hawks by a 54-26 margin. Leading the way for the Lions was Gabe Stefanini who had 23 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists.

On the season, Columbia is averaging 80.0 ppg on 45.7% shooting from the field. The Lions are averaging 9.8 three-pointers per game on 36.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Columbia has been led by Gabe Stefanini (16.2 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.2 spg), Mike Smith (15.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 4.8 apg, 1.8 spg), Quinton Adlesh (8.4 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.0 apg), Ike Nweke (8.4 ppg, 5.0 rpg).

Defensively, Columbia is allowing their opponents to average 76.4 ppg on 44.1% shooting from the field. The Lions have a rebound margin of 5.8 and a turnover margin of 0.8.

The Blue Hens are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 road games. The Lions are 7-0 ATS in their last 7 Sunday games, however, are just 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight up win.

Delaware is a better team that I think people are giving them credit for as they have two great players in Eric Carter and Kevin Anderson and  a defense that currently ranks 68th in scoring defense & 89th in defensive FG%. Columbia has struggled on the defensive end this season and as the Blue Hens have been solid ATS on the road as of late, I’m taking Delaware to cover this small spread.
