The South Carolina Gamecocks and the Michigan Wolverines meet in college basketball action from the Crisler Center on Saturday afternoon.
The South Carolina Gamecocks will look to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their first 8 games of the season following a 73-64 loss to Wyoming in their last outing. A.J. Lawson led the Gamecocks with 15 points along with 9 rebounds while Chris Silva added 11 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocks as the only other South Carolina player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Lawson leads the Gamecocks with an average of 14.9 points and 3.4 assists per game while Silva is South Carolina’s top rebounder with 6 boards per game this season. As a team, South Carolina is averaging 74.2 points per game on 41.3% shooting from the field, 30.9% from behind the arc and 70.7% from the foul line this season.

The Michigan Wolverines will be looking to build on their 9-0 start to the year after a 62-60 win over Northwestern in their last outing. Ignas Brazdeikis led the Wolverines with 23 points 9 of 18 shooting with 3 triples while Jordan Poole chipped in 15 points and Zavier Simpson added 10 points with a team-high 5 assists to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Michigan in the win. Jon Teske added 8 points and a team-high 10 rebounds as well in the winning effort for Michigan. Brazdeikis leads the Wolverines in scoring with 17 points per game while Teske leads Michigan on the glass with 6.6 rebounds per game and Simpson leads the Wolverines with 6 assists per game this season. As a team, Michigan is averaging 71.9 points per game on 46.2% shooting from the field, 36% from behind the arc and 64.2% from the foul line this season. The Wolverines are also tough defensively, allowing the 3rd-fewest points per game in D-I, giving up 52.7 points on the 3rd-lowest field goal percentage against at 35.3% this season.
South Carolina is 0-5-1 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record and 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10 games overall while the over is 5-2 in their last 8 non-conference games. Michigan is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games against the SEC.
The Gamecocks really burned me against Wyoming as South Carolina folded like a cheap lawnchair in the 2nd half and allowed Wyoming to do what they wanted for the most part. The Gamecocks have also been brutal ATS so far this season, and have also had issues scoring the basketball, failing to hit 70 points in half of their games this season. Numbers like that won’t fly against Michigan who are one of the best in the country on both sides of the rock right now, and while the Wolverines scraped by Northwestern, Michigan has been one of the more impressive teams so far this season. Since I have zero confidence in the Gamecocks right now, I’ll lay the points with Michigan as South Carolina is simply not a betting option right now.
