The Weber State Wildcats will travel to the Vivint Smart Home Arena to take on the Utah State Aggies this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The Weber State Wildcats had their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 5-3 on the season after being defeated by the Fresno State Bulldogs, 71-52, this past Wednesday. Weber State couldn’t get anything going on the offensive end against the Bulldogs defense and couldn’t fight back after falling behind by a 42-22 margin early in the 2nd half. Weber State shot just 33.3% from the field and 20.0% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Wildcats was Cody John who had 17 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and a block.
On the season, Weber State is averaging 85.5 ppg on 48.7% shooting from the field. The Wildcats are averaging 8.0 three-pointers per game on 38.6% from beyond the arc. Offensively, Weber State has been led by Jerrick Harding (22.7 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 2.2 spg), Cody John (17.0 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 2.0 apg), Zach Braxton (10.4 ppg, 7.9 rpg), and Brekkott Chapman (9.6 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.4 spg).
Defensively, Weber State is allowing their opponents to average 74.0 ppg on 42.7% shooting from the field. The Wildcats have a rebound margin of 1.1 and are currently averaging 6.5 steals per game.
The Utah State Aggies had their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 7-2 on the season after being defeated by the BYU Cougars, 95-80, this past Wednesday. Utah State had no answers on the defensive end agianst the BYU offense and couldn’t fight back after they went into halftime trailing by a 53-34 margin. Utah State allowed BYU to shoot 55.9% from the field and 45.8% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Aggies was Sam Merrill who had 17 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal.
On the season, Utah State is averaging 84.7 ppg on 49.1% shooting from the field. The Aggies are averaging 7.1 three-pointers per game on 36.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Utah State has been led by Sam Merrill (20.8 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 4.1 apg), Dwayne Brown Jr. (11.3 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 1.0 spg), Neemias Queta (9.4 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 1.2 apg, 2.2 bpg), and Quinn Taylor (9.1 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 2.0 apg).
Defensively, Utah State is allowing their opponents to average 67.9 ppg on 37.9% shooting from the field. The Aggies have a rebound margin of 13.2 and a turnover margin of -0.7.
The Wildcats are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games following an ATS loss however, just 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Aggies are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall.
I think Utah State is the better team here, but the Aggies certainly can’t sleep on Weber State here as this team can put up points in a hurry and also defeated BYU earlier this season. Weber State is a well-coached team and although their defense can be questionable, I think that their offense which can do damage from beyond the arc, will do enough in this one to cover with the points.
