The FAU Owls will travel to First National Bank Arena to take on the Arkansas State Red Wolves this Friday night in College Basketball action.
The FAU Owls improved to 7-2 on the season after defeating the Mercer Bears, 68-64, this past Wednesday night. FAU led by a 29-19 margin at halftime and although they allowed Mercer to fight back after holding a 11 point lead with 5:23 left in regulation, the Owls were able to hang on late for the victory. FAU shot 44.4% from the field while holding Mercer to just 38.9% shooting from the field and 11.8% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Owls was Jailyn Ingram who had 22 points, 8 rebounds, 4 blocks, 1 assist, and a steal.
On the season, FAU is averaging 77.8 ppg on 45.2% shooting from the field. The Owls are averaging 9.1 three-pointers per game on 31.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, FAU has been led by Jailyn Ingram (19.7 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.1 bpg), Anthony Adger (12.3 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.0 spg), Xavian Stapleton (11.0 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 1.1 apg, 1.0 spg), and Jaylen Sebree (11.0 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.1 apg).
Defensively, FAU is allowing their opponents to average 68.4 ppg on 42.5% shooting from the field. The Owls have a rebound margin of 6.0 and a turnover margin of -0.9.
The Arkansas State Red Wolves dropped to 3-6 on the season after being defeated by the Minnesota Gophers, 72-56, this past Saturday. Arkansas State struggled offensively agianst the Gophers and couldn’t fight back after Minnesota took a 41-24 halftime lead. Arkansas State shot just 31.3% form the field and was outrebounded by a 44-37 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Red Wolves was Ty Cockfield who had 20 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
On the season, Arkansas State is averaging 74.9 ppg on 42.1% shooting from the field. The Red Wolves are averaging 7.8 three-pointers per game on 36.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Arkansas State has been led by Ty Cockfield (21.3 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 3.0 apg, 1.1 spg), Marquis Eaton (9.3 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.4 apg, 1.0 spg), Tristin Walley (8.6 ppg, 4.0 rpg), and Grantham Gillard (8.4 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.0 spg).
Defensively, Arkansas State is allowing their opponents to average 79.1 ppg on 45.9% shooting from the field. The Red Wolves have a rebound margin of 0.6 and a turnover margin of -0.7.
The Owls are 5-12 ATS in their last 17 games following a straight up win and are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following an ATS win. The Red Wolves are 12-2 ATS in their last 14 games vs. C-USA opponents however, just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 Friday games.
Arkansas State has a great player in Ty Cockfield however, the Red Wolves lack scoring depth and have a defense that ranks just T-308th in scoring defense and 289th in defensive FG%. FAU has picked up solid wins agianst UCF and FGCU on the season and as they are balanced team on both the offense and defensive ends, I think the Owls do enough to cover in this one.
