The Wofford Terriers will travel to Humphrey Coliseum to take on the 17th ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.
The Wofford Terriers won their 3rd straight game and improved to 9-3 (1-0 Southern) on the season after defeating the UNC Asheville Bulldogs, 92-49, this past Saturday night. Wofford had little trouble with the Bulldogs and easily coasted towards victory after taking a 52-22 halftime lead. Wofford shot 55.9% from the field and 54.2% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Terriers was Cameron Jackson who had 18 points, 7 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 2 steals.
On the season, Wofford is averaging 81.8 ppg on 46.8% shooting from the field. The Terriers are averaging 10.6 three-pointers per game on 37.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Wofford has been led by Fletcher Magee (17.3 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 1.2 apg, 1.1 spg), Cameron Jackson (14.4 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.6 spg), Nathan Hoover (13.3 ppg, 2.9 rpg), and Storm Murphy (8.6 ppg, 2.0 rpg, 3.8 apg).
Defensively, Wofford is holding their opponents to an average of 61.0 ppg on 37.6% shooting from the field. The Terriers have a rebound margin of 9.5 and a turnover margin of 3.2.
The 17th ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs won their 6th straight game and improved to 9-1 on the season after defeating the Cincinnati Bearcats, 70-59, this past Saturday. Mississippi State led by a 37-32 margin at halftime and was able to pull away in the 2nd half after a 6-0 Bulldogs run gave Mississippi State a 64-52 lead with 3:08 left in regulation. Mississippi State shot 45.8% from the field and 52.2% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Lamar Peters who had 14 points, 2 rebounds, 9 assists, and 2 steals.
On the season, Mississippi State is averaging 77.4 ppg on 46.7% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs are averaging 9.6 three-pointers per game on 37.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Mississippi State has been led by Quinndary Weatherspoon (16.5 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.7 spg), Lamar Peters (14.2 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 6.0 apg, 1.0 spg), Aric Holman (10.3 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 1.7 apg, 2.2 bpg), and Tyson Carter (10.2 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.5 spg).
Defensively, Mississippi State is holding their opponents to an average of 63.6 ppg on 41.4% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs have a rebound margin of 6.0 and a turnover margin of 1.3.
The Terriers are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 road games and 6-1 ATS in their last 7 Wednesday games. The Bulldogs are 13-4 ATS in their last 17 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS win.
Mississippi State continues to pick up big wins behind solid three-point shooting and a defense that ranks T-37th in scoring defense however, the Bulldogs will have to make sure they don’t overlook the Terriers who have to be considered one of the better mid-major teams in the country. Wofford has a great duo on Fletcher Magee & Cameron Jackson and has been outstanding on both ends of the court this season as they rank 45th in scoring offense & scoring defense. Wofford will be a popular pick and although I like this team, Mississippi State is a very good team as the Terriers lost by 11+ points to UNC, Kansas, and Oklahoma, I think the Bulldogs will be able to do enough at home to cover this spread.
