The Temple Owls will travel to the Daskalakis Athletic Center to take on the Drexel Dragons this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The Temple Owls won their 2nd straight game and improved to 9-2 on the season after defeating the Davidson Wildcats, 77-75 in OT, this past Saturday. Temple fought back from a 35-27 halftime deficit to force OT and was able secure the win after a Quinton Rose steal & dunk gave the Owls the lead for good with just :03 seconds left in overtime. Temple shot 46.0% from the field and forced Davidson into committing 18 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Owls was Shizz Alston Jr. who had a double-double with 24 points, 11 assists, 2 steals, and a rebound.
On the season, Temple is averaging 73.1 ppg on 43.8% shooting from the field. The Owls are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 29.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Temple has been led by Shizz Alston Jr. (18.8 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 5.6 apg, 1.6 spg), Quinton Rose (16.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.4 apg, 2.5 spg), Nate Pierre-Louis (11.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 1.9 apg, 2.2 spg), and De’Vondre Perry (6.5 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.1 spg).
Defensively, Temple is holding their opponents to an average of 68.0 ppg on 44.5% shooting from the field. The Owls have a rebound margin of 0.9 and a turnover margin of 4.5.
The Drexel Dragons dropped to 6-6 on the season after being defeated by the UConn Huskies, 97-65, this past Tuesday. Drexel had no answers for the Huskies on the defensive end and couldn’t fight back after falling behind by a 42-28 margin at halftime. Drexel allowed UConn to shoot 60.0% from the field and 58.8% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Dragons was Troy Harper who had 20 points and a rebound in 29 minutes of action.
On the season, Drexel is averaging 80.8 ppg on 48.4% shooting from the field. The Dragons are averaging 8.0 three-pointers per game on 39.2% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Drexel has been led by Alihan Demir (14.6 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 3.0 apg), Troy Harper (14.1 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 2.1 apg), Trevor John (12.8 ppg, 2.1 rpg, 1.5 apg), and Camren Wynter (11.0 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 5.4 apg, 1.1 spg).
Defensively, Drexel is allowing their opponents to average 77.5 ppg on 48.0% shooting from the field. The Dragons have a rebound margin of 5.4 and a turnover margin of -2.0.
The Owls are 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall and 5-12-2 ATS in their last 19 non-conference games. The Dragons are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games after allowing more than 90 points in their previous game and 13-5-2 ATS in their last 20 games following a straight up loss of more than 20 points.
Drexel will have the benefit of playing in front of their home crowd in this one however, it’s hard to see the Dragons pulling off a victory with a defense that ranks 289th in scoring defense and 329th in defensive FG%. Drexel has lost by an average of 30.5 ppg to UConn and Rutgers this season and as I think Temple has a similar level of talent as those two teams, I think the duo of Alston Jr. & Rose do enough in this one to cover this large road spread.
