The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Mississippi State Bulldogs meet in SEC college basketball action from Humphrey Coliseum on Tuesday night.
The Alabama Crimson Tide will try to join the fray in the top half of the SEC standings, sitting at 7-7 in conference play after a 103-78 win over Ole Miss last time out. Kira Lewis Jr. leads the Tide in scoring and assists with 17.4 PPG and 5.2 APG this season while also chipping in 5 RPG this season. John Petty Jr. is 2nd in scoring and tops in rebounding with 15.3 PPG and 6.9 RPG while Jaden Shackelford also has 14.8 PPG this season. As a team, Alabama is averaging 83.3 points on 44.3% shooting from the field, 35.5% from 3-point range and 69.6% from the foul line while allowing 78.8 points on 41.6% shooting from the floor and 30.3% from 3-point range this season. Alabama is 4-6 straight up and 8-2 against the spread on the road this season.
The Mississippi State Bulldogs will attempt to crack the top four of the SEC standings, sitting at 8-6 in conference play after an 87-75 loss to Texas A&M last time out. Reggie Perry leads Mississippi State in scoring and rebounding with 17.3 PPG and 9.8 RPG while Tyson Carter is 2nd in scoring and tops in assists with 13.5 PPG and 3.1 APG. Nick Weatherspoon and Robert Woodard II each have 11+ PPG this season. As a team, Mississippi State is averaging 73.6 points on 46.7% shooting from the field, 34% from 3-point range and 75.1% from the foul line while allowing 68.5 points on 43% shooting from the field and 31.9% from 3-point range this season. Mississippi State is 12-2 straight up and 7-7 against the spread at home this season.
Head-to-head, the favorite and the home team are both 7-0 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
Mississippi State has been great at winning games at home this season and Alabama is a far cry from the team we saw entering conference play. However, the Tide have still been very strong against the number on the road this season, and with the way Alabama can pile on points in a hurry, giving points to the Tide is always a dangerous proposition. I just think this is a game that comes down to the final couple of possessions, if Alabama doesn’t win this game outright. I’ll take the Tide and the points in what should be an entertaining matchup.
