The Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Boston College Eagles meet in college basketball action from the Silvio Conte Forum on Wednesday night.
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will look to climb out of a logjam in the middle of the ACC, sitting at 8-8 in conference play after an 87-71 win over Miami last time out. John Mooney leads Notre Dame in scoring and rebounding by averaging a double-double per game with 16.3 PPG and 12.7 RPG while TJ Gibbs is 2nd in scoring with 13.4 PPG and Prentiss Hubb has 12 PPG and a team-high 4.9 APG this season. Dane Goodwin also has 10.8 PPG for the Irish this season. As a team, Notre Dame is averaging 75 points on 42.6% shooting from the field, 34.7% from 3-point range and 73.5% from the foul line while allowing 69.1 points on 41.6% shooting from the field and 33.9% from 3-point range this season. Notre Dame is 3-6 straight up and 5-4 against the spread on the road this season.
The Boston College Eagles will try to join the fray in the middle of the ACC, sitting at 7-10 in conference play after an 82-64 loss to Clemson last time out. Jay Heath and Derryck Thornton are tied for the team-high with 13 PPG, with Thornton leading the Eagles with 3.6 APG this season. Nik Popovic has 11.1 PPG and 5.2 RPG while Steffon Mitchell leads BC in rebounding with 8.3 RPG this season. As a team, Boston College is averaging 64.8 points on 40.6% shooting from the field, 30.1% from 3-point range and 66.4% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 69.8 points on 44.4% shooting from the field and 34.2% from 3-point range this season. Boston College is 8-8 straight up and 7-9 against the number at home this season.
Head-to-head, the underdog is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.
It’s hard for me to make a case for either side, as Notre Dame has played the better ball lately, going 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games, but a lot of their success straight up has come at home and it obviously makes it hard to lay points with the Irish on the road. Boston College has been outscored by 10.2 points per game across their last 5, but the Eagles do own a win against Notre Dame already this season on the road as a 12.5-point underdog, and given the amount of success the underdog’s had in this matchup, I think the Irish can replicate some of that success here. I’ll take my points with Boston College in a game the Eagles could win outright once again.
