The Rhode Island Rams and the Fordham Rams meet in A-10 conference college basketball action from the Rose Hill Gym on Wednesday night.
The Rhode Island Rams will try to keep pace near the top of the A-10 standings, sitting at 11-3 in conference play after a 77-75 overtime loss to Davidson last time out. Fatts Russell leads Rhode Island in scoring and assists with 19.7 PPG and 4.6 APG while Jeff Dowtin is 2nd in scoring with 14.3 PPG and Tyrese Martin has 12.7 PPG this season. Cyril Langevine is also contributing 10.2 PPG and a team-high 10.4 RPG this season as well for Rhode Island. As a team, Rhode Island is averaging 74.7 points on 42.8% shooting from the field, 32.3% shooting from 3-point range and 69.2% from the foul line while allowing 68.2 points on 41.2% shooting from the field and 28.5% from 3-point range this season. Rhode Island is 6-5 straight up and 8-3 against the spread on the road this season.
The Fordham Rams come into this one looking to snap an eight-game losing streak to build some confidence after falling to 1-13 in conference play with a 57-49 loss to UMass last time out. Jalen Cobb leads Fordham in scoring and assists with 10.8 PPG and 2.3 APG while Antwon Portley has 10.3 PPG and Onyi Eyisi has 5.6 RPG for the Rams. As a team, Fordham is averaging 56.8 points on 37.6% shooting from the field, 31% from 3-point range and 63.4% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 61.3 points on 40.3% shooting from the field and 30.7% from 3-point range this season. Fordham is 6-10 straight up and 5-11 against the spread at home this season.
Head-to-head, the underdog is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
The points with a home dog can be tempting, especially when you see that the underdog’s had the upper hand against the number in this matchup as of late. However, Fordham has just been terrible offensively for much of the season, and those scoring issues continue to show up as Fordham’s been held to 56 points or less in each of the eight games during this losing streak. I mean Fordham’s kept things fairly close at home, but I just don’t see Fordham doing enough to keep Rhode Island at bay here. I can see this being a 15-20 point Rhode Island win, even on the road, so I’ll lay the points with URI here.
