The East Carolina Pirates and the USF Bulls meet in AAC college basketball action from the Yuengling Center on Wednesday night.
The East Carolina Pirates will try to leapfrog a couple of teams in the AAC standings, sitting at 5-10 in conference play after a 67-63 win over Temple last time out. Jayden Gardner leads the Pirates in scoring and rebounding with 20.2 PPG and 9.6 RPG while Tristen Newton has 10.2 PPG and a team-high 3.7 APG this season. As a team, East Carolina is averaging 68.5 points on 41.7% shooting from the field, 28.4% from 3-point range and 72.5% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 71 points on 42.6% shooting from the field and 33.4% from 3-point range this season. East Carolina is 1-9 straight up and 4-6 against the spread on the road this season.
The USF Bulls will try to catch up to East Carolina in the table, sitting one place behind at 4-10 after a 4th straight loss in the form of a 78-71 loss to UConn last time out. David Collins leads the Bulls in scoring with 14 PPG while Laquincy Rideau is 2nd in scoring and tops in assists with 12.7 PPG and 3.9 APG this season. Michael Durr also leads USF in rebounding with 6 rebounds per game this season. As a team, USF is averaging 62.1 points on 41.1% shooting from the field, 31% from 3-point range and 64.4% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 62.2 points on 44.1% shooting from the field and 33.5% from 3-point range this season. USF is 8-6 straight up and 8-6 against the spread at home this season.
I get that East Carolina has been bad straight up on the road this season, but while the Bulls play solid defense, a lot of times the offense doesn’t hold up their end of the bargain, and USF ends up playing a lot of tight, low scoring games. The Pirates haven’t been great like I said, but South Florida isn’t this many points better than East Carolina, not even on a good day. I’ll take East Carolina and the points in this one.
