College Basketball: Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at 7:00 pm (Cassell Coliseum)
The Line: Virginia Tech Hokies +2.5 -- Over/Under: 113
The Virginia Cavaliers and the Virginia Tech Hokies meet in college basketball action from Cassell Coliseum on Wednesday.
Virginia enters this one at 19-7 so far. In their last four games, Virginia is undefeated with victories over Notre Dame, North Carolina, Boston College and Pittsburgh in succession during that time.
In the win over Pitt, Virginia’s Kihei Clark led the way on 17 points with five rebounds and three assists, and Mamadi Diakite doubled up on 10 points and 10 rebounds. Both Braxton Key and Tomas Woldetensae added 10 points apiece there for Virginia as well.
Over on the Virginia Tech side, they’re 15-12 this year. Since their latest win over Pittsburgh February 15, Virginia Tech has lost consecutive games to Miami-FL and Duke in their last pair.
In the loss to the Blue Devils, Virginia Tech’s Tyrece Radford led the team on 16 points with nine rebounds and four assists. Isaiah Wilkins posted 11 points with six rebounds and five assists there, and Hunter Cattoor chipped in 10 points and one rebound for Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech is 0-4 ATS in their last four Wednesday games and 1-7 ATS in the last eight after an ATS loss. Virginia Tech is 1-5 ATS in their last six home games and the over is 5-1 in their last six overall.
Meanwhile, Virginia is 11-5-1 ATS in their last 17 Wednesday games and 35-17-1 ATS in their last 53 road games. Virginia is 7-16-1 ATS in their last 24 overall and the over is 4-1 in their last five overall.
Virginia started out great this season, then went into a lull where they had trouble beating anybody. Lately however, the Cavaliers have reasserted themselves and they’re playing their game (defense-heavy, low-scoring and tight) to near-perfection these days.
This matchup could be trouble for Virginia Tech, who has put up a few good scoring outings lately but for the most part have hovered below 70 or so. All things considered, and with the run Virginia has been on lately I’m leaning Cavaliers here.
