The Chattanooga Mocs and the VMI Keydets meet in college basketball action from Cameron Hall on Wednesday.
Chattanooga enters this one at 17-12 overall. In their last five games, Chattanooga is 3-2 with wins over Wofford, VMI and the Citadel alongside losses to Furman and Mercer otherwise.
In the loss to Mercer, Chattanooga’s top scorer was David Jean-Baptiste with 20 points, four rebounds and three assists. Ramon Vila added 18 points, three rebounds and one assist there, and Matt Ryan finished with 16 points, six rebounds and one assist for Chattanooga.
Over on the VMI side, they’re 8-21 this year. The Keydets are 1-3 in their last four games, with a win over Western Carolina along with losses to Chattanooga, East Tennessee State and UNC-Greensboro.
In the loss to UNCG, VMI’s Travis Evee led the team on 16 points with four rebounds. Both Garrett Gilkeson and Sean Conway scored 13 points apiece there, combining for nine rebounds and five assists as well.
VMI is 5-0 ATS in their last five after a straight-up loss and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five Wednesday games. VMI is 4-1 ATS in their last five home games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven overall.
Meanwhile, Chattanooga is 5-1 ATS in their last six Wednesday games and 5-1 ATS in their last six after a straight-up loss. Chattanooga is 20-8 ATS in their last 28 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five overall.
Chattanooga had a bit of a scoring lull going there in late January/early February but lately they’ve been on it. In four of their last five games, Chattanooga has put up at least 80 points, winning three of those. The extra offense has been enough to offset a couple of defensive lapses lately.
As for VMI, they’ve been at 68 or below in three of their last four, and they’ve given up at least 71 points in each of their last four. Chattanooga won 86-67 at home the last time these teams met up, and though I think this one will be closer I think the result will still be the same. I’m going Chattanooga.
