The East Tennessee State Buccaneers and the Wofford Terriers meet in SoCon college basketball action from Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium on Wednesday night.
The East Tennessee State Buccaneers will look to maintain their position at the top of the SoCon, sitting at 14-2 in conference play after a 7th straight win in the form of an 80-74 win over Samford last time out. Tray Boyd III leads East Tennessee State in scoring with 13.7 PPG while Bo Hodges has 13.5 PPG. Jeromy Rodriguez has 10.7 PPG and 7.9 RPG and Daivien Williamson has 10.3 PPG. As a team, East Tennessee State is averaging 76.8 points on 47.5% shooting from the field, 34.1% from 3-point range and 68.7% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 63.3 points on 42.3% shooting from the field and 30.2% from 3-point range this season. East Tennessee State is 10-3 straight up and 7-6 against the spread on the road this season.
The Wofford Terriers will try to jump a couple of spots in the conference standings, sitting at 8-8 in conference play after a 5th straight loss in the form of a 67-66 loss to Furman last time out. Nathan Hoover leads Wofford in scoring with 15.7 PPG while Storm Murphy has 12.3 PPG and a team-high 3.2 APG and Chevez Goodwin has 11.9 PPG and a team-high 6.4 RPG this season. As a team, Wofford is averaging 73.2 points on 46% shooting from the field, 34.9% from 3-point range and 71.7% from the foul line while allowing 68.8 points on 44.1% shooting from the field and 32.4% from 3-point range. Wofford is 10-4 straight up and 5-6-1 against the spread at home this season.
Normally, giving Wofford points at home would be a dangerous proposition. However, the Terriers are going cold at the wrong time, and a five-game losing streak is not what you want to be sitting on coming into a matchup with the top team in the conference. On top of that, East Tennessee State has been pretty good covering the number on the road and I just think this line is more than doable for the Buccaneers. I’ll lay the points with East Tennessee State in this one.
