The Line: Belmont Bruins -20 -- Over/Under: 140.5
The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles and the Belmont Bruins meet in OVC college basketball action from the Curb Event Center on Thursday night.
The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles will try to join a logjam in the middle of the OVC standings, sitting at 6-10 in conference play after a 71-62 win over Southeast Missouri State last time out, their 4th win in their last 5 games. Jr. Clay is Tennessee Tech’s leading scoring with 13.5 PPG while Keishawn Davidson has 4.2 APG and 8.8 PPG and Amadou Sylla leads the Golden Eagles in rebounding with 5.6 RPG this season. As a team, Tennessee Tech is averaging 65.5 points on 41.3% shooting from the field, 32.9% from 3-point range and 67.7% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 72.4 points on 46.3% shooting from the field and 36.1% from 3-point range this season. Tennessee Tech is 3-10 straight up and 5-8 against the spread on the road this season.
The Belmont Bruins will try to keep pace in the MVC conference race at the top of the mountain, sitting in a 3-way tie for first with a 13-3 record after an 8th straight win in the form of an 83-70 win over Eastern Kentucky last time out. Adam Kunkel leads the Bruins in scoring with 17.1 PPG while Nick Muszynski has 14.8 PPG and 5.4 RPG. Tyler Scanlon also has 12.2 PPG while Grayson Murphy has 9.8 PPG as well as team-highs of 7.5 RPG and 6.3 APG this season. As a team, Belmont is averaging 81.2 points on 48% shooting from the field, 36% from 3-point range and 71.1% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 68.6 points on 41.7% shooting from the field and 32.9% from 3-point range this season. Belmont is 12-1 straight up and 10-2 against the spread at home this season.
Head-to-head, the underdog is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
This feels like an absolute ton to give to Tennessee Tech considering they only lost by 8 to Belmont earlier this season. However, that game was at Tennessee Tech, and now the Golden Eagles have to go on the road where they haven’t stepped up to the plate, scoring just 59.5 points per game while Belmont is averaging 83.8 points per game at home and outscoring teams by 22.3 points per game. If all these numbers stay true to form, this should be a beatdown from Belmont. I’d play it if the number was a bit smaller, but I’m staying away. Either way if forced to pick, I’d lay the points with the Bruins here.
