The Line: North Dakota State Bison -5 -- Over/Under: 145.5
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits and the North Dakota State Bison meet in Summit League college hoops action from Scheels Center on Thursday night.
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits will try to lock up the Summit League regular season crown, sitting at 13-2 in conference play after an 8th straight win in the form of an 85-80 win over South Dakota last time out. Doug Wilson leads the Jackrabbits in scoring and rebounding with 18.6 PPG and 6.4 RPG while Matt Dentlinger has 12.1 PPG and Noah Friedel has 11 PPG this season. Brandon Key also has a team-high 3.5 APG this season. As a team, South Dakota State is averaging 78.2 points on 49.3% shooting from the field, 34.9% from 3-point range and 71% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 70.3 points on 42.1% shooting from the field and 30.5% from 3-point range this season. South Dakota State is 6-8 straight up and 9-5 against the spread on the road this season.
The North Dakota State Bison will try to make a late push to catch the Jackrabbits at the top of the mountain, coming into this game at 11-3 in conference play after a 71-68 win over North Dakota last time out. Vinnie Shahid leads the Bison in scoring with 18.3 PPG while Tyson Ward has 15.8 PPG and team-highs of 7.2 RPG and 2.9 APG this season. Rocky Kreuser also has 10.6 PPG and 6 RPG for NDSU this season. As a team, North Dakota State is averaging 74.1 points on 44.7% shooting from the field, 34.9% from 3-point range and 79.5% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 66.3 points on 43.6% shooting from the field and 33.8% from 3-point range this season. North Dakota State is 11-1 straight up and 4-5-1 against the spread at home this season.
Head-to-head, the home team is 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I get the Bison being favored here as the home team’s had a lot of success in this matchup and North Dakota State is 11-1 SU at home this season. However, South Dakota State is still the team to beat as far as I can see in the Summit League, and quite frankly, the Jackrabbits are too dangerous of a team to leave points on the table with, even on the road. I think this is a close game that comes down to the final couple of possessions, so I’ll take a shot with South Dakota State and the points here.
