College Basketball: Friday, February 28, 2020 at 9:00 pm (Alumni Gymnasium)
The Line: Rider Broncs -3.5 -- Over/Under: 147
The Monmouth Hawks and the Rider Broncs meet in college basketball action from Rider University Alumni Gym on Friday.
Monmouth enters this one at 16-11 so far. Over the last four games, Monmouth is 3-1, falling to Niagara while otherwise beating Canisius, Marist and Quinnipiac during that stretch.
In the win over Quinnipiac, Monmouth’s top scorer was Ray Salnave with 14 points, six assists and four rebounds. Both Deion Hammond and Melik Martin scored 12 points apiece in that one, and George Papas chipped in 10 points with four assists and three rebounds.
Over on the Rider side, they’re 15-12 this year. In their last four, Rider is just 1-3, beating Quinnipiac while otherwise falling to Siena, Iona and Saint Peter’s in that stretch of outings.
In the loss to Saint Peter’s, Rider’s only double-digit scorer was Dimencio Vaughn, who carried the team on 24 points, two assists and eight rebounds. Tyere Marshall was the next-closest there with eight points, five rebounds and one assist for Rider.
Rider is 1-5-1 ATS in the last seven Friday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five after a straight-up loss. The under is 15-3 in Rider’s last 18 overall and 6-0 in their last six home games.
Meanwhile, Monmouth is 6-0 ATS in their last six Friday games and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games versus a team with a winning home record. The over is 4-1 in Monmouth’s last five overall and 6-2 in their last eight after an ATS win.
Monmouth has had fits here and there when they go into scoring slumps, but over the last four games they’ve been pretty solid, with 72 or more scored in each of those. Monmouth has been pretty competitive lately, and when they lose it usually isn’t by much.
As for Rider, they’re kind of the opposite; they usually score in the 60s but every few games they get into a nice offensive run and finish in the 70s or 80s. In any case, this one is probably going to be tight but I like Monmouth to pull out a strong game.
