The Florida State Seminoles will try to hold on to the top spot in the ACC standings, sitting at 14-3 in conference play after an 82-67 win over Louisville last time out. Devin Vassell leads Florida State in scoring and rebounding with 12.9 PPG and 5.1 RPG while Trent Forrest is 2nd in scoring and tops in assists with 11.7 PPG and 4.2 APG. M.J. Walker is also adding 10.6 PPG for the Seminoles this season. As a team, Florida State is averaging 75.5 points on 45.8% shooting from the field, 35.9% from 3-point range and 76% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 65.5 points on 40.5% shooting from the field and 31.9% from 3-point range this season. Florida State is 6-4 straight up and 6-4 against the spread on the road this season.
The Clemson Tigers will try to break out of a logjam in the middle of the ACC table, sitting at 8-9 in conference play after a 68-59 loss to Georgia Tech last time out. Aamir Simms leads Clemson with an average of 13.7 PPG, 7.2 RPG and 2.7 APG while Tevin Mack has 12.2 PPG and 5.4 RPG this season. As a team, Clemson is averaging 66.8 points on 43.1% shooting from the field, 32.1% from 3-point range and 67.8% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 63.7 points on 40.5% shooting from the field and 31.8% from 3-point range this season. Clemson is 10-5 straight up and 8-7 against the spread on the road this season.
Head-to-head, the home team is 6-2-1 ATS in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.
I’ve gone back and forth on this one, and the line feels kind of thin which makes me hesitate on FSU just a bit. The Seminoles are rock solid, but I am expecting a bit of a letdown after such an emotional win over Louisville where the Seminoles rallied with a massive run over the course of the second half to come out with a win. Clemson has already dethroned Louisville, Duke and Syracuse over the last month and a half, and the Tigers have the ability to exploit FSU’s achilles heel, which is defending the outside shot as the Tigers lead the conference in 3-pointers attempted this season. If those shots are falling, especially at home, Clemson can make a game of this. I’ll take a shot with Clemson and the points in this one.
