The Line: Evansville Aces -2 -- Over/Under: 134.5
The Illinois State Redbirds and the Evansville Aces meet in MVC college basketball action from the Ford Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Illinois State Redbirds will try to build confidence down the stretch, sitting at 4-13 in conference play after a 74-71 loss to Bradley last time out. Zach Copeland leads the Redbirds in scoring with 14.8 PPG while Keith Fisher III has 9.5 PPG and a team-high 5.9 RPG and Ricky Torres is dishing out a team-high 2.8 APG this season. As a team, Illinois State is averaging 66 points on 42.4% shooting from the field, 35.7% from 3-point range and 70.3% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 70.2 points on 44.6% shooting from the field and 33.5% from 3-point range this season. Illinois State is 0-11 straight up and 2-9 straight up against the spread on the road this season.
The Evansville Aces are down to their last chance to win a conference game this season, sitting at 0-17 in conference play after an 84-64 loss to Northern Iowa last time out. DeAndre Williams has 15.2 PPG and 6.9 RPG in 18 games this season while K.J. Riley has 12.5 PPG and a team-high 2.8 APG. Sam Cunliffe also has 11.3 PPG and 4 RPG for the Aces this season. As a team, Evansville is averaging 67.8 points on 42.6% shooting from the field, 32.4% from 3-point ranee and 73.2% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 74.6 points on 47.2% from the floor and 36.5% from 3-point range this season. Evansville is 5-9 straight up and 4-7-2 against the spread at home.
Head-to-head, the underdog is 13-4 ATS in the last 17 meetings between these two teams and the road team is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.
This game is the definition of picking the lesser of two evils, would you rather take the points with an Illinois State team that’s winless on the road or lay a bucket with Evansville who is winless in conference play but is at home on senior’s day? For me, at least Illinois State has shown they can win games in conference and the underdog and road team have both had success in this matchup over the years. I know the matchup sets the table for the Aces to finally get a conference win, but I just don’t see it happening so I’ll take the bucket with Illinois State here.
