The Utah State Aggies and the New Mexico Lobos meet in Mountain West conference college basketball action from the Dreamstyle Arena on Saturday night.
The Utah State Aggies will try to stay in 2nd in the Mountain West standings, sitting in a tie at 12-5 in conference play after a 6th straight win in the form of a 94-56 win over San Diego State last time out. Sam Merrill leads Utah State in scoring and assists with 18.9 PPG and 4.1 APG while Justin Bean is 2nd in scoring and tops in rebounding, averaging a double-double per game with 12.5 PPG and 10.4 RPG this season. Neemias Queta is also chipping in 12.4 PPG and 7.6 RPG in 18 games. As a team, Utah State is averaging 77.1 points on 45.6% shooting from the field, 33.1% from 3-point range and 77.3% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 63.5 points on 39.1% shooting from the field and 30.8% from 3-point range this season. Utah State is 4-5 straight up and 3-6 against the spread on the road this season.
The New Mexico Lobos will try to get an edge in the bottom half of the Mountain West standings, sitting at 6-11 in conference play after a 5th straight loss in the form of a 60-58 loss to Air Force last time out. JaQuan Lyle leads New Mexico in scoring and assists with 15.3 PPG and 4.5 APG while Corey Manigault has 12 PPG and Zane Martin and Vance Jackson each have 10+ PPG, with Jackson adding 4.9 RPG this season. As a team, New Mexico is averaging 77.2 points on 47.1% shooting from the field, 32.7% from 3-point range and 71.9% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 75.9 points on 44.9% shooting from the field and 35.1% from 3-point range this season. New Mexico is 14-3 straight up and 7-9 against the spread at home this season.
Head-to-head, the favorite is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
Normally if you told me that I’d be getting points with a team that’s 14-3 SU, and this many points at that, I’d be on it like white on rice. However, that just goes to speak to how far and how fast the Lobos are falling right now and it’s falling apart at the worst time with the conference tournament right around the corner. Utah State is going the opposite direction, picking up 6 straight wins on the trot and I think it become 7 here as the Aggies pick up another double-digit win here.
