The Troy Trojans and the South Alabama Jaguars meet in college basketball action from Mitchell Center on Saturday.
Troy sits at 9-20 on the year. It’s been a five-game losing streak for Troy, as they’ve fallen to South Alabama, LA-Monroe, Louisiana, Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State in succession.
In the loss to the Mountaineers, Troy’s only double-digit scorer was Jitaurious Gordon with 11 points, six rebounds and six assists. Khalyl Waters chipped in eight points with four rebounds there, and three other Troy players managed seven points.
Over on the South Alabama side, they’re 18-11 this year. South Alabama has won their last six games over GA Southern, Troy, Louisiana, LA-Monroe, Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina.
In the win over Coastal Carolina, South Alabama’s top scorer was Chad Lott with 22 points, eight rebounds and one assist. Trhae Mitchell added 21 points, six rebounds and two assists there, and Andre Fox had 14 points with four assists and two rebounds.
South Alabama is 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 1-4-2 ATS in their last seven versus a team with a losing straight-up record. The over is 7-3 in South Alabama’s last 10 overall and 7-3 in their last 10 home games.
Meanwhile, Troy is 3-7 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games and 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine overall. Troy is 1-3-1 ATS in their last five after an ATS win and 2-5 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up loss.
These teams last met a few weeks back; that one was a 70-66 Troy home loss that kicked off their losing streak. Since then, Troy scored 148 points in the next two games, and just 119 in their last pair combined. so they’ve been losing in different ways.
Considering South Alabama has hit 70 points in five of their last six (with the outlier being a weird 50 points in a win over LA-Monroe), I don’t see a whole lot of negatives here. I’m going South Alabama on the cover.
