The Line: Southern Illinois-Edwardsville Cougars +3.5 -- Over/Under: 139.5
The Eastern Illinois Panthers and the SIU Edwardsville Cougars meet in college basketball action from Vadalabene Center on Saturday.
Eastern Illinois enters this one at 15-14 on the year. After recently losing consecutive games, Eastern Illinois has won their last three outings versus Murray State, Austin Peay and Southeast Missouri State.
In the win over SEMO, Eastern Illinois’ top scorer was Josiah Wallace with 29 points and four rebounds. The only other Eastern Illinois player in double-figures there was Marvin Johnson with 11 points, three rebounds and three assists.
Over on the SIU Edwardsville side, they’re 8-22 on the season. After a three-game losing streak to SEMO, Austin Peay and Murray State, SIU-Edwardsville beat TN-Martin on Thursday in their last game.
In the win over TN-Martin, SIU-Edwardsville’s Brandon Jackson led the team with 21 points, five rebounds and one assist. Both Zeke Moore and Shamar Wright had 13 points apiece, and the duo combined for seven assists and nine rebounds as well.
SIU-Edwardsville is 2-5 ATS in their last seven Saturday games and 2-7 ATS in their last nine at home versus a team with a losing road record. The over is 17-7 in SIU-Edwardsville’s last 24 home games and 13-3 in the last 16 after an ATS win.
Meanwhile, Eastern Illinois is 2-7 ATS in their last nine road games and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 after an ATS loss. Eastern Illinois is 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall and the over is 4-1 in their last five overall.
Eastern Illinois has been on a nice scoring run lately, and they’ve hit 71 or more in six of their last seven games. Still, this winning streak has been filled with nail-biters, and each of Eastern Illinois’ last five games has been decided by three points or fewer.
As for SIU-Edwardsville, they’ve been all over the place when it comes to scoring lately, but they did hang 90 on TN-Martin in their last outing. This one should be a high-scoring affair as well, but I like Eastern Illinois to power out a cover and post a convincing victory here.
