The Line: UIC Flames -2.5 -- Over/Under: 134
The Oakland Golden Grizzlies and the UIC Flames meet in college basketball action from UIC Pavilion on Saturday.
Oakland enters this one at 12-18 overall. After a four-game win streak over Cleveland State, Youngstown State, Milwaukee and Green Bay, Oakland lost their last game to IUPUI Thursday.
In the loss to IUPUI, Oakland’s lead scorer was Xavier Hill-Mais with 17 points, 12 rebounds and four assists. Brad Brechting posted 16 points with six rebounds in that one, and Tray Maddox turned in 13 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Over on the UIC side, they’re 15-15 this season. Since their last loss to Wright State, UIC has taken out Northern Kentucky, IUPUI and Detroit in succession during their last three games.
In the win over Detroit, UIC’s lead scorer was Godwin Boahen with 19 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Braelen Bridges posted 16 points and four rebounds, and Tarkus Ferguson doubled up on 13 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in that one.
UIC is 3-1-1 ATS in their last five Saturday games and 1-3-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win. UIC is 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 overall and the under is 12-4 in their last 16 overall.
Meanwhile, Oakland is 10-4 ATS in their last 14 after an ATS loss and 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 road games. The over is 3-1-1 in Oakland’s last five road games and 6-2-1 in their last nine overall.
Oakland saw a lengthy scoring streak come to an end against IUPUI, as they had previously hit 70 points in eight straight games. Still, most of Oakland’s games lately have been higher-scoring shootouts, and the Grizzlies seem pretty comfortable in those situations.
As for UIC, they’ve hit 71 or more in four of their last five games, so look for this one to be on the high side total-wise as well. The over would be a good selection to look at. Should be a competitive game, and I like Oakland to take the cover, probably pulling away late to close things out with a victory.
