The Manhattan Jaspers and the Monmouth Hawks meet in college basketball action from Multipurpose Activity Center on Sunday.
Manhattan enters this one at 12-14 so far. Following a four-game losing streak to Iona, Siena, Saint Peter’s and Canisius, Manhattan got back in the win column in their last outing versus Marist.
In the win over Marist, Manhattan’s Pauly Paulicap led the team on 16 points with six rebounds and Samir Stewart had 13 points with four assist and two rebounds. Tykei Greene was also in double-figures there for Manhattan with 12 points, two assists and four rebounds.
Over on the Monmouth side, they’re 16-12 this year. In their last four games Monmouth is 2-2, beating Quinnipiac and Marist while falling to Niagara and Rider otherwise during that stretch.
In the loss to Rider, Monmouth’s Deion Hammond topped the team with 28 points, one assist and four rebounds. The only other Monmouth player in double-figures there was Ray Salnave with 10 points, three assists and one rebound.
Monmouth is 7-2 ATS in their last nine after a straight-up loss and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 after an ATS loss. Monmouth is 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games and the over is 6-0 in their last six home games.
Meanwhile, Manhattan is 1-5 ATS in their last six road games and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. The under is 5-0 in Manhattan’s last five Sunday games and 5-0 in their last five versus a team with a winning straight-up record.
Manhattan has been on a scoring drought in their last six games, during which they’re just 2-4. In each of those games, Manhattan has scored 65 points or fewer, and though they’ve held opponents to 67 or below in five of those games, they haven’t been able to keep up.
As for Monmouth, they’ve put up some pretty good points totals here and there, but they’re pretty erratic when it comes to scoring. Monmouth won the last matchup between these teams 65-58 on the road back on January 18, and I don’t see much changing here. I’m going Monmouth.
