It’s a big time rivalry game on Sunday when the Michigan Wolverines (18-10, CONF 9-8) and Ohio State Buckeyes (19-9, CONF 9-8) face off in a Big Ten showdown at the Value City Arena. Ohio State beat Michigan 61-58 earlier this season.
Michigan has turned back around their season winning five of their last six games, but the one loss was in their last game and it was an ugly one. The Wisconsin Badgers aren’t known as an elite offensive team, but they were still able to drop 81 points on the Wolverines defense.
Away from home this season Michigan has a 4-5 record and their offense hasn’t been as strong averaging only 68.1 points per game. In Michigan’s last game on the road their defense was better giving up only 63 points against Purdue.
Michigan is led by Isaiah Livers who is averaging 13.4 points while shooting 48 percent from the field. If Michigan wants to pull the upset in this game, Livers is going to need to have a big game.
Ohio State had a lull during the middle of their season but they are playing better again having won four of the last five games. The one loss during that stretch was against Iowa and in that game Ohio State gave up 85 points.
On the season Ohio State is averaging 76.4 points per game at home, while the defense is giving 58.6 points.
The star of the Buckeyes is Kaleb Wesson who is averaging 14 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. Wesson doesn’t always have the most flashy stats, but he is good for 15 points and near double digit rebounds every game.
Michigan is 14-5 against the spread in their last 19 games on Sunday. Ohio State is 2-7 against the spread in their last nine Sunday games. The home team is 7-2 against the spread in the last nine meetings between Michigan and Ohio State.
Michigan struggled in their last game and those thoughts will be in the back of their mind in this game. Look for the Wolverines defense to struggle again and that will be enough for Ohio State to cover the spread.
