The Southern Miss Golden Eagles and the UTEP Miners meet in college basketball action from Don Haskins Center on Sunday.
Southern Miss enters this one at 9-19 so far. In the last five games, Southern Miss is 2-3, beating Florida Atlantic and FIU while falling otherwise to Marshall, Western Kentucky and Middle Tennessee.
In the loss to Middle Tennessee, Southern Miss’ leading scorer was Tyler Stevenson, contributing 16 points, six rebounds and three assists. Leonard Harper-Baker added a double-double there on 12 points with 13 rebounds and three assists for Southern Miss also.
Over on the UTEP side, they’re 14-14 this year. After losing five straight to UAB, Charlotte, ODU, Western Kentucky and Marshall, UTEP got a win over Rice their last time out.
In the win over Rice, UTEP’s leading scorer was Daryl Edwards with 34 points, three assists and one rebound. Souley Boum added 16 points, seven assists and six rebounds there, and Bryson Williams had 10 points and six rebounds.
UTEP is 1-5 ATS in their last six Monday games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games. UTEP is 2-11 ATS in their last 13 after an ATS win and 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven overall.
Meanwhile, Southern Miss is 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up loss and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 overall. The under is 4-1 in Southern Miss’ last five overall and the over is 4-0 in their last four Sunday games.
Southern Miss has been pretty hit and miss when it comes to offensive output, and they’ve been below 60 points three times in their last seven outings. The last time these teams met up was a 76-64 Southern Miss loss, so they’ll have to come up with something different here.
UTEP isn’t an offensive powerhouse themselves, so there’s a path for a Golden Eagles cover here. The Miners haven’t hit 70 points in any of their last eight games, so this one will probably be a lower-scoring affair as well. Still, I like UTEP as the lesser of two bad choices here, and the under might be fun to play with.
