The Line: Liberty Flames -16 -- Over/Under: 122
The NJIT Highlanders and the Liberty Flames meet in college basketball action from Vines Center on Tuesday.
NJIT comes into the Atlantic Sun Tournament at 9-20 on the season. In the last four games, NJIT is 2-2, with losses to FGCU and North Alabama sandwiched between wins over Stetson and Kennesaw State.
In the win over the Owls, NJIT’s leading scorer was Zach Cooks with 27 points, eight rebounds and two assists. San Antonio Brinson added 17 points with six rebounds and one assist there, and Souleymane Diakite had 11 rebounds with nine points and two assists.
Over on the Liberty side, they’re 27-4 on the year. Liberty was riding an eight-game winning streak going into their last game versus Lipscomb on Saturday, but lost that one 77-71.
In the loss to Lipscomb, Liberty’s Darius McGhee led the team on 17 points, one rebound and one assist. Myo Baxter-Bell added 15 points with four rebounds there, and Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz had 14 points with two rebounds for Liberty.
Liberty is 1-5 ATS in their last six Tuesday games and 1-4 ATS in the last five home games versus a team with a losing road record. The over is 4-0 in Liberty’s last four overall and the under is 4-1 in the last five Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, NJIT is 4-12 ATS in their last 16 after an ATS win and 3-8-1 ATS in their last 12 road games versus a team with a winning home record. NJIT is 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 games as an underdog as well.
NJIT will have a little momentum coming into this tournament, as they were able to beat up on a one-win Kennesaw State team to the tune of 21 points. In the two games prior to that however, NJIT fell by seven to North Alabama and scored just 39 points versus FGCU.
Liberty on the other hand gets a wakeup call following a loss to a Lipscomb team they should have handled. Prior to that defeat however, Liberty had been scoring pretty well during their winning streak. I’m sticking with Liberty to get back on track here.
