The Niagara Purple Eagles and the Siena Saints meet in college basketball MAAC-tion from the Times Union Center on Wednesday night.
The Niagara Purple Eagles will try to break free from Iona, tied with the Gaels at 9-9 in conference play after a 100-91 win over the Gaels in their last outing. Marcus Hammond leads Niagara with an average of 14.6 PPG, 4.6 RPG and 2.8 APG while James Towns is also contributing 11.1 PPG for the Purple Eagles this season. As a team, Niagara is averaging 66.5 points on 43.3% shooting from the field, 37.1% from 3-point range and 75.2% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 73 points on 45.8% shooting from the field and 36.5% from 3-point range this season. Niagara is 2-15 straight up and 8-9 against the spread on the road this season.
The Siena Saints will try to maintain the top spot in the MAAC standings, sitting at 13-5 in conference play after a 7th straight win in the form of a 52-50 win over Marist last time out. Jalen Pickett leads the Saints in scoring and assists with 15.5 PPG and 5.6 APG while Elijah Burns has 14.3 PPG and Manny Camper is 3rd in scoring and tops in rebounding, averaging a double-double per game with 13.8 PPG and 10 RPG this season. Donald Carey also has 11.2 PPG this season for Siena. As a team, Siena is averaging 71.9 points on 45.4% shooting from the field, 35.5% from 3-point range and 60.1% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 68.7 points on 43.7% shooting from the field, and 32.7% from 3-point range this season.
This feels like a lot of points to give up when both teams are 6-4 ATS in their last 10 games. However, Niagara, while doing a good job covering the number for much of the season, has had issues on the road more often than not this season are averaging just 62.5 points per game on the road while being outscored by 12.9 PPG. Siena plays their best ball at home and have done a good job taking care of the teams that they should at home, so I’ll lay the points with Siena here.
