The Line: Eastern Kentucky Colonels +1 -- Over/Under: 146
The Tennessee State Tigers and the Eastern Kentucky Colonels meet in college basketball action from Ford Center on Thursday.
Tennessee State comes into this Ohio Valley Tournament matchup at 18-14 overall. In their last pre-tournament game Tennessee State fell to Belmont but got a win over Morehead State on Wednesday.
In the OT victory over Morehead State on Wednesday, Tennessee State’s Carlos Marshall put up 14 points with five steals and seven rebounds. Ravel Moody had 14 points there also with three steals, two rebounds and one assist.
Over on the Eastern Kentucky side, they’re 15-16 this year. In their last four games, Eastern Kentucky is 2-2, falling to Belmont and Murray State while otherwise beating Tennessee State and Morehead State in that time.
In the win over Morehead State, Eastern Kentucky’s Jomaru Brown led the way on 17 poitns, three rebounds and three assists. Ty Taylor added 16 points, six rebounds and one assist, and Michael Moreno had 14 points with eight rebounds and one assist.
Eastern Kentucky is 5-1 ATS in their last six Thursday games and 6-2 ATS in their last eight after a straight-up win. Eastern Kentucky is 2-5 ATS in their last seven neutral-site games and the over is 15-7 in their last 22 overall.
Meanwhile, Tennessee State is 4-0 ATS in their last four as a favorite and 4-0 ATS in their last four as a favorite of 0.5 - 6.5. The under is 11-1 in Tennessee State’s last 12 overall and 5-0 in their last five Thursday games.
Eastern Kentucky has been a little shaky results-wise lately, but in their defense they’ve had some tougher matchups over their last handful of games. That said, EKU wasn’t really close to Belmont or Murray State in their last two losses and though they’re a good scoring team it’s something of a dice roll trying to figure out what Eastern Kentucky will look like defensively in a particular game.
As for Tennessee State, they had some trouble shaking off Morehead in the second half Wednesday, but were able to power out a victory in OT. I don’t think TN State will be able to assert themselves like that in this game, so I’m leaning toward Eastern Kentucky here.
