The North Florida Ospreys and the Lipscomb Bison meet in an Atlantic Sun conference tournament semi-final matchup in college basketball action from the UNF Arena on Thursday night.
The Lipscomb Bisons punched their ticket to the conference semi-final as the #3 seed after a narrow 66-63 win over Florida Gulf Coast in the quarterfinals. Ahsan Asadullah leads the Bisons with an average of 18.2 PPG, 9.8 RPG and 4 APG this season while KJ Johnson has 11.7 PPG and Michael Buckland is also adding 10.4 PPG this season. As a team, Lipscomb is averaging 70.9 points on 44.7% shooting from the field, 34.4% from 3-point range and 69.1% from the foul line while allowing 70.8 points on 43.8% shooting from the field and 35.2% from 3-point range this season.
The North Florida Ospreys also escaped to the conference semi-finals, narrowly getting by with a 91-88 win over Jacksonville in their last matchup. Garrett Sams leads North Florida in scoring with 15.2 PPG while Carter Hendrickson is 2nd in scoring and tops in rebounding with 14.8 PPG and 7.1 RPG. Ivan Gandia-Rosa added 14.1 PPG and a team-high 6.4 APG this season while J.T. Escobar has 11.2 PPG and Wajid Aminu has 10.9 PPG for the Ospreys this season. As a team, North Florida is averaging 78.1 points on 45% shooting from the field, 38.1% from 3-point range and 76.5% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 72.7 points on 45.8% shooting from the field and 30.9% from 3-point range this season.
I get North Florida being favored here, especially with the A-Sun tournament games being at the campus sites. However, Lipscomb’s been no slouch lately, and is just one game behind North Florida in their last 10 games, both SU and ATS. Lipscomb also split the two regular season matchups and lost by 8 to the Ospreys in this same venue not too long ago. I just think this line is a bit too thick for what’s at stake here, so I’ll take a shot with Lipscomb and the points here.
