The Iona Gaels and the St. Peter’s Peacocks meet in college basketball MAAC-tion from the Yanitelli Center on Friday night.
The Iona Gaels will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 69-68 loss to Quinnipiac last time out. E.J. Crawford leads Iona in scoring with 18.7 PPG while Tajuan Agee has 14.6 PPG and 7.3 RPG this season. Isaiah Ross has 11.5 PPG and Isaiah Washington has 11 PPG and a team-high 4 APG this season. Asante Gist also has 10.1 PPG for Iona this season. As a team, Iona is averaging 70.8 points on 44.2% shooting from the field, 33.8% from 3-point range and 75.1% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 72 points on 43.2% shooting from the field and 37.5% from 3-point range this season. Iona is 4-8 straight up and 6-7 against the spread on the road this season.
The Saint Peter’s Peacocks will try to finish the season strong and catch Siena at the top of the MAAC standings, sitting at 13-6 in conference play after a 69-68 win over Canisius last time out. KC Ndefo and Aaron Estrada each have a team-high 8.2 PPG while Hassan Drame leads the Peacocks in rebounding with 5.3 RPG and Matthew Lee leads Saint Peter’s in assists with 2.2 APG this season. As a team, Saint Peter’s is averaging 66.6 points on 41% shooting from the field, 35.1% from 3-point range and 72.2% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 64.4 points on 40.3% shooting from the field and 32.5% from 3-point range this season. Saint Peter’s is 10-3 straight up and 9-4 against the spread at home this season.
Head-to-head, the underdog is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams and the road team is 20-7 ATS in the last 27 meetings between these two teams.
I get that the points with Iona are tempting given the Gaels’ scoring depth and Iona has burned me on more than one occasion this season. However, Saint Peter’s is still playing some of the best ball in the MAAC this season, and the Peacocks have just been a tough out at home this season period. The Peacocks also need a win here if they want any hope of catching up to Siena at the top of the MAAC standings. I’ll lay the points with Saint Peter’s at home here.
