The Boston College Eagles and the Florida State Seminoles meet in ACC college hoops action from the Donald Tucker Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Boston College Eagles will look for a huge confidence-building win heading into the ACC tournament, sitting at 7-12 in conference play after a 4th straight loss in the form of an 84-71 loss to Syracuse last time out. Derryck Thornton and Jay Heath are tied for the team lead in scoring with 13.1 PPG with Thornton logging a team-high 3.5 APG this season. Nik Popovic also has 10.5 PPG this season while Steffon Mitchell has a team-high 8.5 RPG this season. As a team, Boston College is averaging 64.9 points on 40.7% shooting from the field, 31% from 3-point range and 65.6% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 70 points on 44.4% shooting from the field and 33.7% from 3-point range this season. Boston College is 4-7 straight up and 5-6 against the spread on the road this season.
The Florida State Seminoles will try to finish the season on a high note, sitting at the top of the ACC mountain at 15-4 in conference play after a 73-71 win over Notre Dame last time out. Devin Vassell leads FSU in scoring and rebounding with 12.9 PPG and 5.2 RPG while Trent Forrest is 2nd in scoring and tops in assists with 11.8 PPG and 4.1 APG. M.J. Walker has 10.8 PPG as Florida State’s 3rd double-digit scorer this season. As a team, Florida State is averaging 75.2 points on 45.8% shooting from the field, 35.8% from 3-point range and 75.7% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 65.8 points on 40.9% shooting from the field and 32% from 3-point range this season. Florida State is 15-0 straight up and 7-8 against the spread at home this season.
Head-to-head, the home team is 6-0-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams and the favorite is 5-2-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings between the two sides.
The recent numbers would suggest a closer affair as Boston College has been scoring 66.2 points across their last 5 games while Florida State has been logging 74.6. However, the Eagles have been getting beat up more often than not on the road in conference play while Florida State all season long has done a good job being the dominant one at home, including back-to-back 15-point home wins over Pitt and Louisville in their last two home games. I just think the crowd will be fired up on senior day and the fact is that the Seminoles are also still fighting for the ACC regular season title. I’ll lay the points with FSU in what I see being a 20-point+ beatdown.
