The Line: Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns -3.5 -- Over/Under: 150.5
The Arkansas State Red Wolves and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns meet in college basketball action from Cajundome on Saturday.
Coming into this Sun Belt Tournament matchup, Arkansas State is 16-15 overall. Arkansas had a pretty ugly eight-game losing streak going, but got a one-point win over GA Southern in their last game.
In the win over Georgia Southern, Arkansas State’s Marquis Eaton led the way on 17 points with two assists and one rebound. Both Canberk Kus, with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and JJ Matthews with 11 points and 11 boards, doubled up there for Arkansas State as well.
Over on the Louisiana side, they’re 13-18 this year. Over the last four games Louisiana is 2-2, falling to LA-Monroe and Little Rock while otherwise beating Arkansas State and Coastal Carolina.
In the win over Coastal Carolina, Louisiana’s Cedric Russell put up 28 points with five assists and two rebounds. PJ Hardy added 24 points, two rebounds and two assists there, and Doudou Gueye doubled up on 12 points, 11 rebounds and three assists.
Louisiana is 9-23-1 ATS in their last 33 after a straight-up win and the over is 9-1-1 in their last 11 overall. The over is 5-0-1 in Louisiana’s last six Saturday games and 5-0 in their last five home games.
Meanwhile, Arkansas State is 7-1 ATS in their last eight road games and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games. Arkansas State is 19-9 ATS in their last 28 overall and the over is 4-1 in their last five road games.
Arkansas State had been showing signs of breaking out of their losing streak with a three-point loss to Little Rock and a three-point loss to Louisiana, and they finally broke out versus GA Southern 76-75 on Tuesday. Where the Red Wolves go from here is an interesting question.
In general, Louisiana has been scoring pretty well lately, but they’re all over the place results-wise since they give up a ton of points on the other side with regularity. This is a good window for Arkansas State to bang out a cover if they can get their offense going.
