The Charlotte 49ers and the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs meet in C-USA college hoops action from the Thomas Assembly Center on Saturday night.
The Charlotte 49ers will try to finish the season strong, sitting at 10-7 in conference play after a 56-43 win over North Texas last time out. Jordan Shepherd leads Charlotte in scoring and assists with 14.1 PPG and 4.2 APG while Jahmir Young has 12.6 PPG and a team-high 5.2 RPG and Drew Edwards has 10.1 PPG for the 49ers this year. As a team, Charlotte is averaging 67.1 points on 45.6% shooting from the field, 34.8% from 3-point range and 70.7% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 64.7 points on 44.1% shooting from the field and 31.6% from 3-point range this season. Charlotte is 3-10 straight up and 5-8 against the spread on the road this season.
The Louisiana Tech Bulldogs will look to take sole possession of the 2nd spot in the C-USA standings, sitting at 12-5 in conference play after a 76-73 win over FIU last time out. DaQuan Bracey leads Louisiana Tech in scoring and assists with 12.9 PPG and 2.9 APG while Kalob Ledoux has 11.4 PPG and Amorie Archibald has 11.3 PPG for the Bulldogs this season. Mubarak Muhammed is matching his 8.3 PPG with a team-high 8.3 RPG for LA Tech this season. As a team, Louisiana Tech is averaging 74.8 points on 46.6% shooting from the field, 35.4% from 3-point range and 66.8% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 64.4 points on 39.9% shooting from the field and 31.7% from 3-point range this season. Louisiana Tech is 14-1 straight up and 7-6 against the spread at home this season.
Head-to-head, the home team is 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
I’m tempted by the points with Charlotte as the 49ers have battled and looked pretty good in beating North Texas. However, winning games with 56 points doesn’t happen all that often unless you’re Virginia, and the 49ers are only averaging 61.2 points per game across their last 5 games, which is a far cry from the 76.2 points that the Bulldogs have in their last 5 games. The Bulldogs are also outscoring teams by 17.7 points per game at home and holding opponents to 57.7 points per game on their home floor this season. I think this is another low scoring game for Charlotte, but this time, the 49ers won’t be able to keep their opponent down. I’ll lay the points with Louisiana Tech in a double-digit Bulldogs victory.
