The Fort Wayne Matadors and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits meet in college basketball action from Denny Sanford Premier Center on Saturday.
Coming into this Summit League Tournament matchup, Fort Wayne is 13-18 overall. Over their last five games, Fort Wayne is 1-4, taking out Denver while otherwise falling to North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Omaha and Oral Roberts during that stretch of outings.
In the loss to Oral Roberts, Fort Wayne’s top scorer was Jarred Godfrey with 21 points, eight rebounds and four assists. DeMierre Black was also in double-figures for Fort Wayne there with 12 points and two rebounds on the evening.
Over on the South Dakota State side, they’re 22-9 overall this year. South Dakota State was enjoying an eight-game winning streak dating back to January 22, but they fell in their last outing to North Dakota State.
In the OT loss to North Dakota State, South Dakota State was led by Noah Freidel with 23 points, eight rebounds and two assists. The only other South Dakota State player in double-figures there was Matt Dentlinger with 20 points and six rebounds.
South Dakota State is 39-18 ATS in their last 57 Saturday games and 22-8 ATS in their last 30 overall. South Dakota State is 8-3 ATS in their last 11 after an ATS win and 22-8 ATS in their last 30 overall.
Meanwhile, Fort Wayne is 0-4 ATS in their last four after a straight-up loss and 2-5 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win. The under is 19-6-1 in Fort Wayne’s last 26 overall and 4-1 in their last five after an ATS win.
It’s been a pretty rough five games for Fort Wayne, and they haven’t been scoring well. Over their last four outings Fort Wayne has been at 66 points or fewer, and hasn’t had much success despite a couple of decent defensive outings. There’s really not much to like about them lately.
In any case, South Dakota State had a great scoring run prior to the 69-point disappointment versus North Dakota State their last time out, but I like them to bounce back here. I can’t find a lot of reasons not to pick South Dakota State here.
