The Line: Stony Brook Seawolves -7.5 -- Over/Under: 132
The Stony Brook Seawolves and the Albany Great Danes meet in an America East conference tournament quarterfinal matchup in college hoops action from Island FCU Arena on Saturday night.
The Albany Great Danes come into the conference tournament as the #7-seed, finishing the year with a 7-9 mark in conference play as part of their 14-17 overall record this season, with the Great Danes missing out on the 6-seed after a tiebreaker loss to UMass-Lowell. Ahmad Clark leads Albany in scoring and assists with 16.8 PPG and 4.1 APG while Cameron Healy has 13.8 PPG and Romani Hansen has a team-high 5.8 RPG this season. As a team, Albany is averaging 66.3 points on 40.9% shooting from the field, 32.4% from 3-point range and 70.4% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 68.2 points on 41.9% shooting from the field and 34.1% from 3-point range this season.
The Stony Brook Seawolves enter the tournament as the #2-seed, finishing the year with a 10-6 mark in conference play as part of their 19-12 overall record this season. Elijah Olaniyi leads the Seawolves in scoring and assists with 18.2 PPG and 2.1 APG while Makale Foreman has 15.5 PPG and Andrew Garcia has 13.4 PPG and a team-high 6.8 RPG this season. As a team, Stony Brook is averaging 69.3 points on 40.7% shooting from the field, 33.5% from 3-point range and 72.2% from the foul line while allowing opposing teams to average 65.6 points on 38.9% from the field and 32.4% from 3-point range this season.
I think you could make a case for either side here as Albany did a good job at keeping it within the number in both games against Stony Brook this season, but the Seawolves also won both games and could be looking to put the hammer down early here. With that said, I’m going to side with the under. Neither of these teams have been anything to write home about on offense, with Albany averaging 57.2 PPG across their last 5 games and Stony Brook putting up just 56.2 and allowing 59.6. The Great Danes haven’t been good defensively during that stretch, but the last meeting was decided by a 52-49 score and I think we could be in for more of the same as I’m not sure either side breaks 60 here. Give me the under.
